It's Okay to Not be Okay Review!

Korean Drama, It's Okay to Not be Okay, is a must-watch for every person who loves romance, comedy, and psychological themes. It is not an ordinary love story but contains some deep psychological themes which are not addressed in our society.

The plot revolves around an antisocial, selfish Children's book writer, Ko Moon-Young, who is suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) because of her traumatic past. Her books and stories are nowhere near cozy and warm. They portray the brutal side of society and the bitter side of fairy tales.

On the other hand, we have two brothers,  Moon Gang-Tae and Moon Sang-Tae. Moon Gang-Tae is our protagonist who is a selfless caregiver in a psychiatric ward. Moon Sang-Tae is the elder brother suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Moon Gang-Tae also has a hurtful past where he was ignored by his mother because of his brother. A lot of emotions welled up in him which he has concealed beneath his fake smile.

Ko Moon-Young is loud and has no control over her emotions, while Moon Gang-Tae doesn't know how to express his emotions. In their journey of healing, they met and helped each other in coming out of their traumas. This drama is the story of their healing while touching on some sensitive mental issues in a person's life.

Most of the part of this drama is in Seongjin which is the hometown of Ko Moon-Young and Moon Gang-Tae. In this hometown, Moon Sang-Tae saw his mother brutally getting murdered. This caused him the disorder. But now, the time has come for him to face the fears of his life.

In her childhood, Ko Moon-Young was living with a psycho mother and was caged in a castle just like Rapunzel. In her childhood, her paths crossed with Moon Gang-Tae who will now rescue her from emotional wounds.

A lot of scenes are in Ok Psychiatrist Hospital of Seongjin where Moon Gang-Tae is an employee and Ko Moon-Young's father is admitted. In the ward, we will meet a lot of patients who are suffering from different psychological disorders. Every patient has a story to tell and every scene has a psychological issue to discuss.

Apart from psychological issues and romance, this drama also has mystery elements in it. Who killed the brothers' mother? What is the story of Ko Moon-Young's mother? This thriller element adds spice to the story of this drama.

And do you know what I love most about this drama?

Its dark fairytale theme!

Every episode has fairytale elements in it. Every psychological issue is explained through a fairy tale illustration. In Seojing, all three main characters are living in a castle which is a dark version of fairy tales. In Ok Psychiatrist hospital, Ko Moon-Young was hired for a storytelling session. And those scenes were my favorite ones. In her sessions, she told the dark version of fairy tales which acquainted us with the amalgam of bitter reality and fantasy. In this unique way, the writer has discussed a lot of social and personality issues of humans.

Apart from the fairy tale theme, what I loved the most is Ko Moon-Young's dress and the aesthetics of the romantic scenes. The setting, acting, and dressing of this drama give you the real feeling of fantasy. The only difference is that our fairytale characters are speaking about the bitter realities of society.
